The DRG Class 05 was a class of three streamlined 4-6-4 steam locomotives used on express passenger trains in continental Europe. The first 2 were built in 1935. The very first one, 05001, on the photo above (Nuremberg Transport Museum).
On May 11 1936 BR 05 002 (above) set the the world speed record for steam locomotives after reaching 124.5 mph = 200.4 km/h on the track between Hamburg and Berlin hauling a 197 t train. The engine power was more than 3.400 ihp.
The last one, 05 003 (above), was built in 1937 and originally had cab forward streamlined design.
In 1944, the streamline plates were removed. 05 003 had been rebuilt and lost the cab forward design. Which up to me looks even better.
